Homeowners in Pasco County may qualify for the Homestead Exemption, which can reduce property taxes by lowering the taxable value of their home—often saving around $500 per year.
In this video, local real estate agent Monika Hosko explains who qualifies, how to apply, and what documents are needed. To qualify, the home must be your primary residence, you must own it as of January 1, and be a Florida resident. Applications are due by March 1 and can be completed online or in person through the county property appraiser.
In addition to yearly tax savings, homeowners may also benefit when selling. If you’ve lived in your home for at least two of the last five years, you may be able to exclude up to $250,000 in profit if single, or $500,000 if married, from capital gains taxes.
Apply when you purchase your home to start saving as soon as possible.
